Reading One Thousand and One Nights at Gubran's Home - Kirkuk, June 1960 |

June
1960 - Reading in One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic) while on visit by
my friend Gubran in Kirkuk. A moment of peace in a time of dangers and anxiety.
During the early sixties many people of the left in Kirkuk were assassinated
by thugs who operated in the name of Turcomans. Later, around 1961-1962
Gubran and his family moved to Baghdad. We met casually in Baghdad after
I moved there in 1962. We lost contact after I left Iraq in 1968 to study
in Germany. Photo: Gubran |
