WELCOME IN YOUR SECOND HOMELAND

This is a peculiar genre. It is an inteview with myself about my relation to Germany, a country where I have lived, studied and worked for more than fourteen years, a country I consider my second homeland.

I have always wanted to conduct an interview with myself about poetry and literature, but I never did such an interview. This time, I had a different motive to do it. Early in 2002, Roger Willemsen, a journalist and program producer at the German Deutsche Welle TV, started a weekly program, "Welcome Home", in which he each time interviews two international artists who have studied, lived or worked in Germany or whose work is related to Germany. An interesting idea and a program of fine quality.

This motivated me to interview myself following, more or less, the approach of the program. The questions asked and answered here are limited to my relation to Germany as a poet. Other areas of interest of my multifaceted relation to Germany are excluded.

I recently wrote to Roger Willemsen about my experiment. I also intend to send him the text of my auto-interview when I get it ready. I am writing this interview piece by piece, so please come back again to read more.
